Central Pennsylvania African American Museum

Central Pennsylvania African American Museum

The history of the African American community in central Pennsylvania has been under-represented. This first-of-its-kind exhibit uses the landscape of Berks County to trace the 400-year narrative from the African slave trade and North American captivity to fights for freedom, equality and political, social and economic opportunity. The design emphasizes the key organizing and aspirational role religion and the church played in this process and celebrates the achievements of the Reading African American community from the late 19th-century.
